Basic and advanced aspects in all metals and related catalysis topics (L3,M,D).

About this book

This tutorial volume covers the basic and advanced aspects of organometallic chemistry of all metals and related catalysis topics. It treats historical background, concepts (including structures of mono- and polymetallic complexes), molecular orbitals, reactivity, implications in biology and applications to organic synthesis and catalysis. The catalysis section includes the challenging activation and functionalization of the main classes of hydrocarbons and the industrially crucial heterogeneous catalysis. Chapter-end summaries and exercises support self- and group study, with solutions included at the end of the book. 500 selected references complement the text for further reading. Chapter-length treatment of green chemistry, plus many recent international research results, round out this highly accessible textbook.

About the author(s)

Didier Astruc accomplished his doctorate in Rennes with R. Dabard, a postdoc at MIT with R.R. Schrock and a sabbatical leave in U.C. Berkeley with K.P.C. Vollhardt. He has led an organometallic chemistry group as a full Professor in Bordeaux since 1984. He is a Member of the Institut Universitaire de France since 1995, of the Leopoldina and Europeae Academies and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He was a recipient of the Coordination Chemistry Award of the French Chemical Society (1981), of the Humboldt Award (1989) and of the Le Bel Prize of the French Chemical Society (2000). His fields of research are electron-reservoir systems, arene complexes, metallodendrimers, nanoparticles and their use in catalysis and sensing. He has authored more than 300 publications.
