Presentation
This book is devoted to the theory of Dm-splines and some of its applications to the approximation of surfaces. Part of it is to describe an abstract theory of minimizing splines which includes the Duchon (four chapters). The rest of the book focuses on several fitting problems which arise in oil research and geophysical sciences, paying special attention to the approximation of faulted explicit surfaces. Through detailed theoretical discussions and numerical examples, the authors show how what are called discrete Dm-splines can be satisfactorily used to solve these problems.
